Philippians 4:8 by Natasha Turner

          "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things." How many of you are early birds? I usually wake up around 5 a.m. and start my day pretty early. There are some days that I am in high gear rearing to go and then of course I have my days where I just want to continue to lay in that soft comfortable bed and let the day drift by. Our attitude can affect our whole day from start to finish. Have you ever heard the saying " He/ She woke up on the wrong side of the bed today." Our attitude's not only affect ourselves, but they affect the people around us wether it be at work, your spouse, children, a man/woman on the street you just met, or the cashier at the end of the counter waiting to ring you up. How many people have been affected by someone who just seemed really grumpy, down, and in the end it kinda just put a damper on your day and brought you discouragment? Did you know that there are many benefits to staying positive? Here are some of the statistics I have found.

1. Positive people Live Longer

2. Positive work environments outperform negative work environments

3. Positive people are able to make better decisions under pressure

4. Positive thoughts and emotions counter the negative effects of stress

5. Marriages are much more likely to succeed when the couple experiences a 5 to 1 ratio of positive to negative interactions whereas when the ratio approaches 1 to 1, marriages are more likely to end in divorce.

        These are just a few things I have found about positive attitude. Paul tells us whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy then to think of such things. I know at times it is hard to be positive all the time, but we are strongly encouraged everyday to stay positive no matter what circumstance we face wether it be big or small. God is bigger than our problems we face today. I just encourage you this week as you wake up if you are having a rough morning and cant seem to get it together to start each morning with thinking of one positive thing and focus on that. If you cant think of anything I have one for you. You are alive! That is a gift from God in itself. He has a purpose for your life. He is not done with you yet. Give him the praise and glory for your gift of life today. He deserves it and he is looking forward to hearing from you.

Philippians 4:8 is one of the most important scriptures in my life. I refer to it with the children I teach as well. Telling them in a little jingle, "What goes in, must come out" What we see and think about will surely come out of our mouths at some point in our life. Will it be good or not so good?
