Take Time to be Holy

I cannot remember a summer when so much has been going on AND how fast it has flown by.

My thoughts have been filled with the words to some old hymns.  And one of those hymns is "Take Time to be Holy".  How wonderful this hymn is and the words are straight from the Holy Spirit's prompting.

          Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;

          Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.

          Make friends with God's children, Help those who are weak;

          Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

          Take time to be holy, The world rushes on;

          Spend much time in secret with Jesus alone

          By looking to Jesus, Like Him thou shalt be

          Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

These are just the first two verses and the next two are just as significant in telling us that we need to TAKE TIME WITH HIM!

I return to my words in the first paragraph about how fast the time has flown by.  The man who wrote the words to "Take Time to Be Holy" was neither a pastor nor a songwriter.  William Longstaff was an English businessman ––a Christian layman who took his faith seriously. He wrote this poem over 100 years ago and was later put to music by George Stebbins.  I am so glad that this particular hymn is "Public Domain"  meaning that it can be quoted without infringing a copyright law.  I personally need to keep this song forever in my mind, reminding me to always take time for my Lord.  As I do, I will surely make a better witness to those around me.

I hope you all have access to a church hymnal (which are becoming rare these days).  So that you can look up these old hymns and read the truth they are sharing.

Great blog. I read the words to the song over and over. Even though familiar it was a great devotional today.
